Scottish Antique Money bank, Kirkcaldy red hen. A Scottish pottery hen shaped bankie, terracotta painted red.   Moulded with chickens and a basket pattern. Similar examples in Kirkcaldy Museum Collections. In Scotland these are called "Pirlie" banks from the Scot's word "pirl" to shake or rattle. Circa 1880 Approx. 10cm high by 11cm across base condition- There is a tiny mark to the red colouring on one side of the slot and a little wear. It is very unusual to find one of these bankies with so much of the red colouring left as it is very easy to over wash off. On purchase, postage will NOT be added automatically to your bill.
