Mauchline ware with picture of Duncrub House, Perthshire.
Photographic picture of Duncrub House, Perthshire.

The house was largely rebuilt in 1870 and this would appear to be of around that time.

Unusually, its pin cushion is covered in woven tartan cloth which is quite definitely the original covering and contemporary with the object. The top is a little worn, but I have not seen another piece with a tartan pin cushion and it is likely the entire piece was commissioned in a limited number for the owners of the house to give as presents.

The house was demolished in 1950.

The interior is very clean; dished and unvarnished, still smelling of wood!

8cm high.
